Balconagar, 13th June 2025 : Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, organized a 4-day family drive for its employees, offering a unique opportunity to witness the making of aluminium at BALCO, India’s first public sector undertaking (PSU) in the aluminium sector. The initiative aimed at offering firsthand experience of the journey of aluminium production to the families of aluminium makers, building a stronger connection, while evoking a deeper sense of belonging.
The initiative gave an opportunity to the families to witness the production process through a comprehensive tour of the plant operations. The tour commenced with a mandatory safety briefing at the Centralized Security Operation Centre, where the families were informed about the stringent security protocols that safeguard BALCO. The visit showcased the entire lifecycle of aluminium production, and the visitors observed the smelting of alumina into molten aluminium in the potlines. Along with this, they also learned about the production of carbon anodes that is a critical part of the production process. Later, they visited the 1200 MW power plant where power is generated and distributed to energize the entire plant. The journey concluded at the cast house, where molten metal is transformed into finished products such as aluminium ingots, rolled products, wire rods, and primary foundry alloys. These products then find critical applications in core industries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director, BALCO, shared, “At BALCO, we believe that the strength of our organisation lies not just in our people, but also in the unwavering support of their families. Our extended BALCO family forms the emotional backbone that empowers our workforce to thrive and excel. We deeply value this contribution and remain committed to fostering a culture that promotes holistic well-being, work-life harmony, and a shared sense of purpose. Together, we strive to create an environment where every individual feels inspired to grow and reach their full potential.”
Sharing her experience, Mrs. Laxmi Devi Chhipa said, “We have always heard about different functions of BALCO from our children, but to experience it and learn about the role they play in a 60-year-old iconic organization was indeed very inspiring for us. We were pleased to observe the operations and the safety measures that were being followed stringently. We will cherish this experience forever.”
