ECL’s Big Milestone! Highest-Ever Coal Production Highlighted at 51st AGM

Sanctoria | IndustrialPunch : Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, convened its 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 12 August 2026 at its headquarters in Sanctoria. The AGM was conducted in hybrid mode, enabling participation both physically and through virtual platforms.

The meeting brought together senior leadership from Coal India, ECL, the Ministry of Coal and the company’s Board, reflecting the organisation’s focus on operational performance, governance and future growth.

Top Leadership Attends AGM

The AGM was attended by Shri B. Sairam, Chairman, Coal India Limited; Shri Mukesh Agrawal, Director (Finance), CIL; Shri Satish Jha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, ECL; Shri Anil Narayan Kinjavadekar, Independent Director, ECL; and Dr. Chetna Shukla, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Coal.

Also present were Md. Anzar Alam, Director (Finance), ECL; Shri Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (Human Resources); Shri Girish Gopinathan Nair, Director (Technical – Project & Planning); Shri Chitranjan Kumar, Director (Technical – Operations) and senior company officials.

ECL Highlights Highest-Ever Coal Production

Addressing shareholders and stakeholders, ECL CMD Shri Satish Jha described FY2025-26 as a landmark year for the company.

He highlighted not only ECL’s highest-ever coal production, but also qualitative improvements in operations, sustainability practices and governance frameworks.

The company reiterated its focus on strengthening operational efficiency while maintaining its commitment to safety, sustainability and responsible mining practices.

CIL Chairman Stresses Revenue Sharing and Coal Quality

Coal India Chairman Shri B. Sairam acknowledged ECL’s performance during FY2025-26 and emphasised the need to increase the revenue-sharing model of mines.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring good-quality coal and continuing sustainable development initiatives across mining operations.

Financial Statements and Future Roadmap Discussed

A key part of the AGM was the presentation and adoption of the Audited Financial Statements for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, along with the Directors’ Report.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the company’s future roadmap, with focus on operational performance, sustainability, digital innovation and reliable coal supply.

ECL reiterated its commitment to safety, sustainable mining, digital innovation and nation-building. The company emphasised its role in maintaining a reliable supply of coal to support the country’s energy requirements.

The participation of ECL’s Heads of Departments and Area General Managers reflected a coordinated leadership approach towards the company’s future operational and strategic priorities.
