Eight more bodies of workers recovered from debris of collapsed tunnel in J&K

The audit tunnel of T3 on the National Highway near Khooni Nallah in Ramban district caved in at the start of the work on Thursday night.

In the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, rescuers today recovered eight more bodies of workers from the debris of a tunnel which collapsed near Khooni Nallah area of Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway taking the death toll in the incident to nine.

AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that one body was recovered yesterday. Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Masarat Ul Islam said that the retrieved bodies have been shifted to District Hospital Ramban adding rescue operation is still going to recover one more trapped worker as ten workers had got buried under the debris of the tunnel. He said five dead bodies have been identified. While three belong to West Bengal two are from Ramban district who have been identified as Muzaffar and Ishrat. The rescue operations were suspended last evening following inclement weather, rainfall and shooting stones.

The rescue operation is continuing and the National Highway NH44 is through for vehicular traffic. The audit tunnel of T3 on the National Highway near Khooni Nallah in Ramban district caved in at the start of the work on Thursday night.
