NTPC Korba proudly announces the commencement of the sixth edition of its flagship community initiative – Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025. Aimed at nurturing young minds and fostering gender equality, this transformative program continues its journey with 84 bright students enrolled this year from 34 different schools spanning nearby villages and urban wards.
Since its inception, GEM at NTPC Korba has positively impacted the lives of 576 girls from 41 schools across 36 villages and wards. These numbers speak volumes about the initiative’s reach and significance—each representing a story of courage, resilience, and transformation.
At its core, GEM is designed to provide holistic development for young girls by integrating academic learning with co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The initiative focuses on enhancing confidence, skill-building, and providing meaningful exposure to broaden the horizons of its participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajeev Khanna, Executive Director, NTPC Korba, stated, “This mission is not only important to us—it is integral to our values and our responsibility toward the community.”
NTPC, a signatory to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), has consistently demonstrated its commitment to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive development—both within the organization and across its surrounding communities.
As part of the inauguration ceremony, kits were distributed to all 84 participants by Shri Rajeev Khanna, Executive Director, NTPC Korba; Shri Bibhas Ghatak, GM (O&M); Smt. Roli Khanna, President, Maitri Mahila Samiti and Smt. Subhra Ghatak, Vice-President, Maitri Mahila Samiti.
In addition to kit distribution, registration and medical check-ups for each student were conducted to ensure their well-being and preparedness for the residential program.
As GEM 6.0 begins, NTPC Korba reaffirms its unwavering commitment to nurturing the dreams and aspirations of young girls and contributing to a more equitable and empowered society.
