Sensex rises 1,344 points, Nifty ends at 16,259; Tata Steel surges over 7%

Indian equity indices closed higher on Tuesday. The domestic equity markets witnessed a strong rebound, thanks to a rally in metal stocks. Most of the Asian markets also closed higher, supporting the sentiment.

Indian equity indices closed higher on Tuesday. The domestic equity markets witnessed a strong rebound, thanks to a rally in metal stocks. Most of the Asian markets also closed higher, supporting the sentiment. Tata Steel was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 7.62 per cent. Reliance, ITC, Bajaj Finance and ICICI Bank were among the other top Sensex gainers.

Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi surged by 0.92 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose by 0.42 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite index surged by 0.65 per cent

Market Overview

The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 2.54 and 2.63 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 54,300 level while the Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 16,259 mark. The Sensex gained 1,344 points to trade at 54,318 and the Nifty50 rose by 417 points to trade at 16,259.

Nifty50 Index

In Nifty50 index shares, Hindalco was the biggest gainer, increased by 9.58 per cent. Tata Steel, Coal India, JSW Steel, ONGC and Tata Motors were among the other gainers.

On the other hand, Tata Consumer Products was the worst performer in the pack, down by 0.17 per cent.

Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices

The Nifty Midcap-100 index surged 2.73 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index rose 3.36 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Oil India gained 8.46 per cent, L&T Technology rose 8.05 per cent, JSW Energy, AB Capital and Tata Power also surged, while Escorts, Dalmia Bharat and Dr Lal PathLab declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Affle India gained 14.68 per cent. On the other hand, Future Retail fell 4.69 per cent, Indian Bank, Heidelberg Cement and Amber Enterprises declined.

Sectoral Indices

In NSE sectoral indices, 20 out of 20 sectors surged. Nifty Metal was the top performer as it gained 6.86 per cent, Nifty Commodities rose 4.02 per cent, followed by Nifty OilGas increased by 3.68 per cent.
