WCL Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Grandeur, CMD Hemant Pande Emphasizes Production and Safety

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. After unfurling the National Flag, WCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande inspected the parade by the WCL security contingent.

Thereafter, addressing Team WCL, he spoke in detail about the company’s production, productivity, environmental conservation, safety in mining operations, CSR activities and other key areas. He emphasised the adoption of new technologies and the use of modern equipment in the company.

He expressed confidence that, as in previous years, Western Coalfields Limited would achieve its targets for production, dispatch and OB removal during the current financial year as well. He called upon the employees to contribute to the nation’s progress through coal production. On the occasion, he presented certificates of appreciation and badges to security personnel for their outstanding performance.

Thereafter, at the programme held at the Sanskrutik Bhawan, he felicitated employees for their outstanding performance, as well as employees’ children who had achieved notable success in Class X, Class XII and higher education. Mines and Areas that had achieved outstanding accomplishments were also awarded on the occasion. In the Best Area category, Majri Area received the First Prize, Wani Area the Second Prize and Umred Area the Third Prize.

During the programme, WCL Director (Finance) Shri Bikram Ghosh presented the “Best PSU Partner” national award trophy to CMD Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande. The award was received by WCL under the “PMIS Recognition of Partner Company Awards” organised by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, in recognition of outstanding leadership, effective implementation and high-quality initiatives in the successful implementation of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS). It is pertinent that Shri Ghosh had received the award at the programme held in New Delhi from Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs. On the occasion, Shri Ghosh extended Independence Day greetings to everyone and apprised the gathering of the company’s financial achievements.

Representing the WCL Steering Committee, Shri C. J. Joseph extended Independence Day greetings to all and briefed on the historical events during Indian independence struggle.

The programme held at WCL Headquarters was attended by Smt. Reena Pande, President, Jhankar Mahila Mandal; Smt. Shruti Paranjape, Vice President, Jhankar Mahila Mandal; WCL Director (Finance) Shri Bikram Ghosh; Director Technical (Project & Planning) Shri Sandeep Paranjape; CVO Shri Ajay Madhukar Mhetre; members of the WCL Steering Committee; members of the Welfare Board; representatives of trade unions; General Managers and Heads of Departments at Headquarters; Area General Managers; and a large number of employees.

The programme also featured patriotic songs performed by WCL’s employees, adding to the spirit of national pride and celebration.
