Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), Ranchi, and CSIR-Central Institute of Mining & Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), Dhanbad, signed an MoU for scientific cooperation in the field of Coal Gasification on 29th September 2026 at CSIR-CIMFR office, Dhanbad.
The MoU was signed by Vikrant Gupta, HOD, Business Development, CMPDI, and Amar Nath, Scientist-G, Head, Technology Management & International S&T Affairs Division, CSIR-CIMFR in the august presence of Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing-Director (CMD), CMPDI; R.T Mandekar, Director General of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DG-DGMS); Prof. Arvind Kumar Mishra, Director, CSIR-CIMFR; B.K.Pandey, GM(Clean Energy Department), CMPDI and Ghanshyam S. Gahlot, Regional Director, CMPDI, RI-II, Dhanbad.
The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration between the two organizations for development and implementation of Coal Gasification projects, including preparation of Pre-Feasibility Reports (PFRs) and Detailed/Feasibility Reports for Surface Coal Gasification Projects.
Under the MoU, CSIR-CIMFR will serve as the Knowledge Partner for process engineering and technology development, including feedstock assessment, gasifier selection, process development, techno-economic analysis and pilot-scale performance evaluation.
CMPDI will serve as the Project Development and Implementation Partner, focusing on project planning, stakeholder coordination and facilitating industrial-scale deployment of coal gasification projects.
This collaboration will also cover engineering and design inputs, techno-economic evaluation, site and infrastructure assessment, environmental and regulatory assessment, technology commercialisation and identification of potential technology and industry partners.
The MoU will remain effective for a period of five years and is expected to provide a structured framework for leveraging the technical expertise of both organisations for advancement of coal gasification projects.
