Dhanbad। IndustrialPunch : The CSIR–Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR) and the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the areas of knowledge and expertise sharing, research and development (R&D), mine safety and technological innovation.
The MoU was signed under the guidance of Shri Ujjawal Tah, Director General, DGMS, and Prof. Arvind Kumar Mishra, Director, CSIR-CIMFR, on August 28, 2026.
The collaboration is aimed at promoting mutual cooperation in key areas including mine safety, technological innovation, reduction of occupational hazards, capacity building and development of improved safety protocols.

The partnership is expected to provide a structured platform for combining the technical and research expertise of CSIR-CIMFR with DGMS’s regulatory and mine-safety experience.
MoU Signed by Representatives of CSIR-CIMFR and DGMS
The MoU was formally signed by Er. Amarnath, Scientist-G, Technology Management, ISTAG & HRD Research Group, CSIR-CIMFR, on behalf of CSIR-CIMFR, and Shri Kamera Thirupathi, Director (S&T), DGMS, on behalf of DGMS.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior officials and scientists from both organisations, including Shri Ravindra Tulshidas Mandekar, Deputy Director General, DGMS; Shri N. Nageswara Rao, Director of Mines Safety (SOMA), DGMS; Dr. Prabhat Kumar Mandal, Scientist-G, Mining Methods & Geomechanics Research Group, CSIR-CIMFR; Shri Surjeet Katewa, Director of Mines Safety (SD), DGMS; Dr. M. P. Roy, Scientist-G, Research Planning & Business Development, CSIR-CIMFR; and Dr. Ranjan Kumar, Scientist-G, Mining Methods & Geomechanics Research Group, CSIR-CIMFR.
Strengthening India’s Mine Safety Ecosystem
The MoU brings together two key institutions working in the mining safety and research ecosystem. The proposed cooperation will focus on sharing technical knowledge, developing safety-oriented solutions and strengthening capabilities through training, research and technical interaction.
The initiative is particularly significant for advancing safer mining practices, technological innovation and occupational hazard reduction while supporting the development of improved safety protocols for the mining sector.
