Rawatbhata, Rajasthan. IndustrialPunch: India’s nuclear power programme has reached another significant milestone with NPCIL’s 700 MWe RAPP-8 indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) at Rawatbhata commencing Initial Fuel Loading.
The milestone was achieved in compliance with applicable guidelines and regulatory requirements, further strengthening the standardisation of India’s 700 MWe PHWR design and supporting its deployment in fleet mode.
RAPP-8 is the fourth reactor in a series of 16 indigenous 700 MWe PHWRs being developed across India. It follows KAPS-3 and KAPS-4 at Kakrapar, Gujarat, and its twin unit RAPP-7, which commenced commercial operation in April 2025.
The development marks another step towards expanding India’s clean, reliable and energy-secure nuclear power capacity.
