On June 19, 2025, the curtains came down on a transformational chapter as NTPC Korba celebrated the Closing Ceremony of the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 6.0—a journey that empowered 84 young girls from across 34 schools in the region. What began as a 30-day immersion into learning, self-discovery, and inspiration concluded with a heart-touching showcase of talent, confidence, and collective strength.

A Celebration of Transformation

The stage came alive with vibrant, thematic performances by the GEM girls—each act a testament to their growth, learning, and the deep impact of the program. The audience was visibly moved during “Operation Sindoor”, a powerful dramatization celebrating the courage and service of women in uniform. The presentation highlighted the sacrifices, struggles, and strength of India’s women soldiers, echoing the very spirit of the GEM initiative.

“Mahakumbh”, a visually rich performance rooted in India’s spiritual and cultural heritage, offered a colorful portrayal of unity, devotion, and diversity. The performance celebrated the energy of collective faith—symbolic of the power that arises when individuals come together for a shared cause.

In a graceful demonstration of inner strength and balance, the girls also performed a synchronized yoga sequence, reinforcing the holistic values of the GEM curriculum—mental clarity, physical well-being, and mindfulness.

The closing performance, a stirring group rendition of “We Shall Overcome”, left not a single eye dry. The girls sang with passion and pride—each voice carrying hope, resilience, and a quiet but unshakable determination to rise above all odds.

Graced by Dignitaries and Community Leaders

The event was attended by senior NTPC leadership, teachers, volunteers, proud parents, and community stakeholders who had been part of the girls’ month-long journey. In his address, Shri Rajeev Khanna, Executive Director, NTPC Korba, praised the remarkable growth of each participant, “GEM is not just a mission, it is a movement. Over the past month, these 84 young girls have shown us that change is not only possible—it is already happening. We are proud to have been a part of their journey.”

More than a Program: A Lifelong Foundation

GEM 6.0 stood apart not only for its scale but also for its substance. Over the past four weeks, the girls engaged in interactive learning, leadership workshops, creative arts, physical fitness sessions, and role model interactions—including with civil servants and armed forces personnel. They learned not just what to dream—but how to work towards it.

From shy introductions on Day 1 to confident performances on Day 30, the transformation in each participant was palpable. As one parent remarked during the vote of thanks, “We sent our daughters here to learn—but they are returning as leaders.”

Carrying the Torch Forward

As GEM 6.0 draws to a close, it leaves behind more than memories—it leaves behind a community of 576 empowered girls who now carry the torch forward. NTPC Korba, in its golden jubilee year, has once again reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth—ensuring that the energy it produces also fuels ambition, equality, and societal transformation.

The Closing Ceremony of GEM 6.0 was not an end, but a new beginning—for 84 girls ready to rewrite the future, one dream at a time.
