New Delhi: Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance & HR), Western Coalfields Limited, participated as a panelist in a panel discussion during the two-day National Conference & Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026), organised by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, at The Ashok, New Delhi.
During the panel discussion, Shri Ghosh highlighted WCL’s approach towards Corporate Social Responsibility and shared insights into some of the organisation’s flagship CSR initiatives aimed at creating meaningful and sustainable impact in communities around its operational areas.
Emphasising the broader philosophy behind CSR, Shri Ghosh said, “CSR should be termed as Collective Social Commitment.” He underlined that CSR should not be viewed merely as a statutory obligation, but as a collective responsibility of organisations towards society and the communities associated with their operations.
Shri Ghosh highlighted that WCL’s CSR interventions are designed with a focus on community needs, regional development, sustainability and long-term social impact. He emphasised the importance of engaging local stakeholders and implementing initiatives that address the actual requirements of communities, particularly in areas surrounding mining operations.
He also spoke about WCL’s efforts in areas such as healthcare, education, skill development, women empowerment, livelihood generation, sanitation and community infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring that CSR initiatives translate into tangible benefits for people at the grassroots level.
The participation of WCL at NCCSR 2026 provided an opportunity to showcase the organisation’s CSR philosophy and initiatives before a diverse audience of CSR professionals, corporates, policymakers, institutions and other stakeholders. The conference also served as a platform for sharing experiences, best practices and innovative approaches towards making CSR more impactful and inclusive.
The panel discussion brought together an eminent group of experts and CSR leaders, including Shri Kailash Bhandari, Joint Director, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE); Ms. Rema Mohan, CEO, NSE Foundation; Shri Praveen Karn, AVP & Head, Spark Minda Group; Shri Sourav Roy, CEO, Tata Steel Foundation; Shri Prashant Hota, Chairman, Inclusion Foundation; and Shri Sandeep Kumar, CEO, ONGC Foundation. The session was moderated by Shri Gaurav Majumder, Thematic Lead, HCL Foundation.
