Korba, March 30, 2026 :  NTPC Korba, one of India’s premier thermal power stations and the second oldest plant of NTPC, continues to stand as a symbol of resilience, reliability, and excellence in power generation. The station has carved a niche for itself through outstanding operational performance. In financial year 2025-26 performance highlight of NTPC Korba are as follows:

  • NTPC Korba has consistently secured the top rank within NTPC in terms of Plant Load Factor (PLF), reflecting its high efficiency and dependable operations. For six consecutive years, NTPC Korba has secured the top position in PLF within NTPC.
  • Among power stations with a capacity above 2000 MW, NTPC Korba has secured the top position in Plant Load Factor (PLF) in India.
  • NTPC Korba ranks 3rd among NTPC stations in achieving the lowest Energy Charge Rate (ECR), reflecting strong cost efficiency and operational performance.
  • Its units have achieved remarkable milestones, including 455 days of continuous operation by Unit-7 and over 400 days by Unit-1, placing them among the best- performing units in the organization.
  • Total forced outages have reduced by approximately 50% compared to the previous year.
  • NTPC Korba is ranked first among NTPC plants in operational earnings.

Driving Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship

Environmental responsibility remains at the core of NTPC Korba’s operations. The station has developed a green cover spanning over 33% of its total area and planted more than 30 lakh trees with an impressive survival rate exceeding 95%. A landmark achievement is the successful reclamation of the Charpara Ash Dyke through plantation of more than 4 lakh trees, making it the first reclaimed ash dyke within NTPC. This effort has been formally recognized with a Reclamation Certificate from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board, showcasing a model example of ecological restoration.

NTPC Korba has also demonstrated exemplary performance in ash management, achieving 119% ash utilisation in FY 2024–25 and 110% utilisation till February 2026. The station continues to implement a comprehensive plan to maintain more than 100% ash utilisation every year, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable waste management.

Innovative initiatives such as the Fly Ash Lime Gypsum (FALG) plant inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, further highlight the station’s commitment to circular economy practices by converting industrial by-products into sustainable construction materials.

Empowering Communities through CSR

Beyond power generation, NTPC Korba has made a significant impact on the lives of people in surrounding communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Its mobile health units have served over 25,000 beneficiaries across villages, while targeted programs address critical issues such as anemia, maternal health, and child nutrition. Skill development initiatives have enabled youth to secure employment and pursue self-employment opportunities. The station has also contributed to the development of essential infrastructure including roads, schools, healthcare centers, and community halls.

In the field of sports, NTPC Korba has actively nurtured local talent and contributed to building a strong sporting ecosystem. Several athletes from the region have achieved recognition at national and international levels, including notable talents such as Kiran Pisda, Harshit Thakur, Shruti Yadav, and Akarshi Kashyap, bringing pride to the region and showcasing the success of grassroots sports promotion initiatives.

NTPC Korba has taken various affirmative action under its CSR programme for employment generation for youth employment. Details of programmes and nos of persons employed through these programmes are as follows:

Approx. 110 persons got placement in Injection Moulding Machine Operator and 50 persons through CNC machine operator skill training- Courses were organised at CIPET
14 persons got Govt Jobs in Defence Sector (Constable, Nagar Sainik, Agniveer category) after receiving coaching.

Through SHGs more than 35 women become financially independent through self- employment.

Through its flagship “Girl Empowerment Mission” (GEM), NTPC Korba is transforming the lives of rural girls. This initiative recently benefited 576 students from 41 schools across 36 villages. By providing education, health awareness, and life-skills training, the program aims to instil confidence and empower young girls to become self-reliant leaders.

The station has been recognized as the Best National Energy Efficient Coal Plant and Best National Water Efficient Unit, along with receiving the “Excellent PLF Plant of the Year” award.
