Tehran (IndustrialPunch International Desk) : Iran has begun a week-long series of state funeral ceremonies for its slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with his body lying in state at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran. Thousands of mourners, senior clerics, government officials, military leaders, and foreign dignitaries have gathered to pay their final respects to the leader who ruled Iran for nearly four decades.

The funeral ceremonies are expected to continue throughout the week, with Khamenei’s coffin scheduled to travel to the Shiite holy cities of Qom, Najaf, and Karbala before his final burial in Mashhad, home to Iran’s holiest shrine. Iranian authorities have described the ceremonies as a tribute to the late leader’s legacy and a demonstration of national unity.
Large crowds gathered in Tehran as mourners offered prayers, chanted religious slogans, and threw flowers toward the coffin during the farewell ceremony. Security has been significantly tightened across the capital, while the government has arranged transportation and other facilities to encourage public participation in the funeral events.
The funeral comes months after Khamenei was killed during the opening phase of the Iran conflict earlier this year. His death marked one of the most significant moments in the history of the Islamic Republic and triggered a major leadership transition in the country.

Leaders and representatives from several countries, including Russia, China, Iraq, and Pakistan, are expected to participate in various stages of the funeral ceremonies, reflecting Iran’s diplomatic ties with regional and international partners.
