NTPC Korba, on August 1, 2023, welcomed C. Sivakumar, RED WR-II & USSC on the occasion of celebrating 40 years of Commercial Operation of Unit I. The Unit I of NTPC Korba marked its Commercial Operation Declaration Date as 01.08.1983. Since then it has been lighting up millions of lives.

“Such milestones can only be achieved when all the employees, their families, service departments, everyone contribute their hard work and energy. The small pieces of art work help the whole to grow and prosper in totality,” remarked Shri C. Sivakumar, RED (WR-II & USSC).

Walkathon, Tree Plantation, Guest House Inauguration, Cultural Program, etc were some of the itineraries of the full day program. The convoy that accompanied the respected Executive Director included Shri B. Ramachandra Rao (BUH, Korba), Shri Madhu S. (GM O&M), Shri S.P. Singh (GM Fuel Management), Shri Somnath Banerjee (GM Maintenance), Shri Prabhat Ram (Head of HR), Shri Lokesh Mahindra (Chief Medical Officer) and other senior officials.

To celebrate the milestone, NTPC Korba started with Walkathon along with the employees and their family members inside the township and marked the occasion with mass tree plantation.

Following this, the convoy and employees headed towards the inauguration of the new guest house-Shabri Bhawan of NTPC Korba. The Shabri Bhawan was inaugurated by Shri Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC Limited, in the auspicious presence of Shri Dilip Kumar Patel, Director (HR), Shri Ramesh Babu V., Director (Projects), Shri Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya, Director (Operations), Shri Jaikumar Srinivasan, Director (Finance) and Shri Shivam Srivastava, Director (Fuel) live digitally via a virtual platform in the gracious presence of Shri C. Sivakumar, RED WR-II & USSC and Shri B. Ramchandra Rao, CGM, Korba. The curtains were raised for new beginnings.

As NTPC Korba now marks 40 years, we hope that Korba will shine for another 20 years with proper maintenance and safety requirements, remarked Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC Limited. He also congratulated everyone on this memorable occasion and gave special thanks to the employees who were a part of the 40 years journey since the beginning.

Following the program schedule, all headed towards the hospital for blood donation. The blood donation camp was in association with Bilasa and headed by Shri Lokesh Mahindra, CMO, NTPC Korba.

All the employees along with the convoy then headed towards the plant premises towards Unit I of NTPC Korba which completed 40 years of Commercial Operation. A small Puja and a cutting ceremony was held there. Further, the 40 years logo of Korba was unveiled by RED, Shri C. Sivakumar at the Unit I Control Room commemorating the occasion.

In the same line, the sports council of NTPC Korba also conducted a football match among Delhi Public School, NTPC Korba students and Shri C. Sivakumar and Shri B. Ramachandra Rao initiated the match by kicking the football. Afterwards, a tug of war was organised between CISF, Security Wing and CISF, Fire Wing. Wherein, the Security Wing emerged as the winner.

Bright and blooming NTPC Korba also organised a laser lighting show at dusk continuously projected at the Stage I Chimney marking the 40 years milestone.

Last but not least, a cultural program in the evening was also organised. The participants included students of Delhi Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Central Government School, Bal Bhawan, Saraswati Sishu Mandir and members of Maitri Mahila Samiti. The participants showcased their talents in various forms of art namely dance, drama, and music. the auditorium was filled with joy, glamour and energy. During the program, employees who have served Korba for 40 years since 1983 and were from the beginning were also felicitated.

Korba Super Thermal Power Station has been at the top performer for consecutively three years among NTPC Limited and standing tall for 40 years for a company in the industrial world is a great thing in itself, said Shri B. Ramachandra Rao, CGM, Korba.

Not limiting to only celebration, RED also headed the Station Review Meeting and visited the Ash Dykes of NTPC Korba.
