Sensex rises 503 points, Nifty ends at 16,170; Tata Steel surges over 5%

Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi declined by 0.18 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell by 0.27 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite index surged by 0.50 per cent

Indian equity indices closed higher on Thursday. The domestic equity markets witnessed a strong rebound, thanks to a rally in Metal and Banking stocks. Tata Steel was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 5.27 per cent. SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC were among the other top Sensex gainers.

Market Overview

The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.94 and 0.90 per cent, respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 54,250 level while the Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 16,170 mark. The Sensex gained 503 points to trade at 54,252 and the Nifty50 rose by 144 points to trade at 16,170.

Nifty50 Index

In Nifty50 index shares, Tata Steel was the biggest gainer, increased by 5.29 per cent. JSW Steel, Apollo Hospital, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Hindalco were among the other gainers. On the other hand, ITC was the worst performer in the pack, down by 2.20 per cent.

Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices

The Nifty Midcap-100 index surged 1.35 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index rose 0.77 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Dr Lal PathLab gained 9.49 per cent, Adani Total Gas rose 7.87 per cent, M&M Financial, Indiabulls Housing and Max Financial also surged, while Ipca Labs, ICICI Securities and Hind Zinc declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Thyrocare Technologies gained 8.67 per cent. On the other hand, Sequent Scientific fell 11.70 per cent, Future Retail, Happiest Minds and Affle India declined.

Sectoral Indices

In NSE sectoral indices, 18 out of 20 sectors surged. Nifty PSU Bank was the top performer as it gained 3.16 per cent, Nifty Metal rose 2.67 per cent, followed by Nifty Fin Service increased by 1.97 per cent.
