Bengaluru, July 12: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is significantly ramping up its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy by planning to build a team of up to 8,900 forward-deployed AI engineers and actively exploring acquisitions in the AI space. The move reflects the company’s confidence that AI will create new business opportunities rather than disrupt the traditional IT services model.
According to TCS executives, the new AI deployment engineers will work closely with clients to integrate, customize, and deploy AI solutions across industries. The company believes that combining deep domain expertise with AI implementation capabilities will be a key differentiator in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
In addition to expanding its AI workforce, TCS is also evaluating strategic acquisitions in artificial intelligence and related technologies to strengthen its capabilities and accelerate innovation. This marks a shift from the company’s traditionally organic growth strategy toward targeted acquisitions in high-growth AI segments.
The announcement comes shortly after TCS reported strong quarterly results, with AI emerging as a major growth driver. The company disclosed that its annualized AI business has grown to $2.6 billion, supported by increasing enterprise demand for generative AI, automation, and intelligent business solutions.
TCS CEO K. Krithivasan has maintained that AI is expected to transform jobs rather than replace them, emphasizing that the technology will create new roles requiring advanced skills in AI deployment, integration, and consulting. The company’s latest hiring plans reinforce that outlook amid global concerns over AI-led job displacement.
