USA joins International Solar Alliance as a member country

USA has joined the International Solar Alliance ISA as a member country. It becomes the 101st country to sign the framework agreement of the ISA to catalyze global energy transition through a solar-led approach.

US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry today announced the decision at COP26 in Glasgow.

Welcoming the US, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said the move will strengthen the ISA and propel future action on providing a clean source of energy to the world.

Signing the framework agreement, John Kerry, said it has long been coming and US is happy to join the International Solar Alliance, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the lead in making. He said this will be an important contribution to more rapid deployment of solar globally.

In a Tweet, John Kerry, the first United States Special Presidential Envoy for climate, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for championing this important endeavor.

Director-General of ISA, Dr. Ajay Mathur said, the US’ endorsement of ISA’s framework and approach is a heartening development and demonstrating that nations across the world are recognizing the economic and climate mitigating value of solar, as well as this energy source’s potential as a catalyst for global energy transition.
