Ranchi. The Jharkhand Government would get Rs 90,000 crore from the e-auction of 22 mines allocated for commercial mining in the mineral-rich state.
Besides, it would generate employment for over 50,000 people. The ministry of coal had put 22 coal mines in Jharkhand for e-auction. After the mines start operation, the state government would get revenue in different forms.
According to an estimate, the state exchequer would get Rs 90,000 crore as revenue from commercial mining in the next 30 years, which is the average life of a mine. On average, the Jharkhand government would get Rs 3000 crore annually.
This is besides the royalty and the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund. The mines would also generate employment opportunities for 50,000 people, of which 15,000 would be direct. Apart from this, people would also get jobs in the transportation and other services associated with the coal mines.
The mining activities and revenue in Jharkhand will further get a major boost as the country’s largest iron-ore miner, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), is venturing into the coal mining sector in the state. The company has expedited its plan and is likely to commission the two coal blocks allotted to it in Jharkhand in the current financial year.
In 2019, the Union Ministry of Coal had allocated two coal blocks to iron ore mining company NMDC under Section 5(1) of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act 2015. The two blocks Rohne and Tokisud North— situated at an aerial distance of 10-15 km apart — are located at Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.
NMDC plans to extract over 10 million tonnes of coal annually from the two mines.
