Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a flagship unit of Maharatna company SAIL, has achieved a milestone by recording its highest-ever saleable steel dispatch by rail for the month of May. In May 2026, the plant dispatched 2.90 lakh tonnes of steel through rail, with a total of 111 rail rake loadings, surpassing the previous May best of 2.89 lakh tonnes.

This record-breaking performance was matched by the New Plate Mill, which achieved a total dispatch of 90,479 tonnes during May 2026, registering the highest-ever May dispatch since the Mill’s inception and exceeding the previous best record of 82,061 tonnes set in May 2025.

Notably, this remarkable achievement was accomplished while maintaining an excellent average steel rake turnaround time of just 26.5 hours, demonstrating the plant’s superior operational efficiency and highly effective logistics management.

The milestone underscores RSP’s continued commitment to excellence in production and dispatch operations during the financial year 2026-27, as the plant sets new benchmarks across multiple production and logistics parameters.
