South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been conferred the prestigious ‘Green Transition Leadership Award’ at The Times Internet Ecopreneurs Awards 2026 in recognition of its outstanding initiatives in sustainable and green mining and its commitment to environmental stewardship. The award was received by Shri Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL, at a ceremony held in New Delhi on 17 July 2026.
The award has been presented in recognition of SECL’s sustained efforts towards environmental conservation, promotion of green energy, scientific mine closure, land reclamation and adoption of environment-friendly mining practices and technologies.
Adding to this achievement, SECL has also crossed the milestone of 50 Million Tonnes of coal production in the current financial year 2026-27, becoming the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited to achieve this feat during the year. The company has registered a 9.5% growth in coal production over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
SECL’s mega projects in Korba made a significant contribution to this achievement. Dipka Project produced 11.8 Million Tonnes, Gevra Project produced 11.7 Million Tonnes and Kusmunda Project produced 9.7 Million Tonnes of coal. In addition, CIC Coalfields contributed 8.8 Million Tonnes, Raigarh Area produced 5.9 Million Tonnes, while Korba Area recorded 2.1 Million Tonnes, collectively contributing to the company’s strong operational performance.
