Hyderabad: In a bid to ensure uninterrupted power generation across Telangana, The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has intensified coal supplies to thermal power stations across the State, with a renewed focus on meeting the rising electricity demand triggered by prevailing El Niño conditions.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti has directed officials to accord the highest priority to coal transportation and further enhance supplies to all thermal power plants in Telangana to maintain adequate fuel stocks.
The decision was taken during a video conference coordination meeting held on Friday between SCCL CMD Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti and TGGENCO CMD Dr. Harish, along with senior officials from both organisations. The meeting reviewed the current power demand scenario, coal production, transportation, logistics, and fuel availability at thermal power stations.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Jyoti stressed that the sharp increase in electricity consumption due to El Niño requires close coordination between SCCL and TGGENCO to ensure uninterrupted power generation. He announced that special officers would be appointed to closely monitor coal transportation and resolve operational issues on a priority basis.
Officials from SCCL’s Marketing Department informed the meeting that nearly 72% of the company’s coal production is currently being supplied to TGGENCO thermal power stations, NTPC Ramagundam, and the Singareni Thermal Power Plant. However, in view of Telangana’s increasing power demand, the CMD directed officials to give top priority to coal supplies within the State, even if it requires reallocating coal originally earmarked for other States.
Dr. Jyoti also instructed officials of SCCL and TGGENCO to continuously assess coal requirements and maintain close coordination on coal production, railway rake availability, transportation logistics, and dispatch planning to ensure seamless fuel supply.
Highlighting the challenges posed by the monsoon season, the SCCL CMD directed all Area General Managers to take preventive measures to avoid disruptions in opencast mining operations. He emphasized that coal production should not decline under any circumstances and that quality standards must be maintained without compromise.
During the meeting, TGGENCO CMD Dr. Harish reviewed the coal stock position at Telangana’s thermal power stations and urged senior field officials to proactively address transportation bottlenecks to facilitate uninterrupted coal movement.
The meeting was attended by SCCL Directors L.V. Suryanarayana, K. Venkateswarlu, and M. Tirumala Rao, Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna, GM (Coordination & Marketing) T. Srinivas, General Managers of all SCCL Areas, TGGENCO Directors Nagya and Rajasekhar, Chief Engineers Bichanna, Laxmaiah, and Sriprakash, along with other senior officials.
