State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries had spent Rs 553.85 crore under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) head during the financial year 2020-21 (FY21), of which about half had been paid out for COVID cure.
A total of Rs 264.68 crore was spent under CSR on COVID-19 related projects and activities, the CIL underlined in the corporate presentation. The amount is 49 per cent of the total CSR expenditure of FY2021.
CIL had contributed Rs 221crore to the PM-CARES fund towards the end of FY19-20 for supporting COVID19 relief measures. In addition, Rs 90crore in total have been contributed to the disaster management authorities/relief funds of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand duringFY2021.
The CIL had set up 25 medical oxygen plants with a total outlay of Rs 35crore under “Mission Praan Vayu”. Total over 2000 COVID Beds have been arranged. CIL and its subsidiaries have also contributed towards setting up COVID-19 treatment/quarantine centers, distribution to cooked food/food ration to stranded persons/on Shramik special trains and distribution of masks and sanitizers etc.
The company handed 73 Ice Lined Refrigerators and 94Deep Freezers to the Government of West Bengal and 7 Ice Lined Refrigerators and 13Deep Freezers to Meghalaya to help transport the vaccine for COVID-19 to various parts of West Bengal.
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has converted government hospitals at Bilaspur and Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh into100-bedded COVID treatments centres with RT-PCR labs. SECL has provided 60 TRUE NAT machines for RT PCR tests in Chhattisgarh.
The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is funding Level 3 Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) at Bhubaneswar. Initially started with 525 beds, the hospital now has a capacity of 1250 beds. In addition, a 150 bedded hospital has been set up at Talcher. The total financial support for these two hospitals has been Rs 135 crore which is 65 per cent of the total CSR expenditure of MCL in FY21 i.e. Rs 205 crore.
