Kolkata | IndustrialPunch : Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has welcomed Chitranjan Kumar as its new Director (Technical), marking a significant addition to the company’s leadership team.
A seasoned mining professional with more than 30 years of experience in the coal sector, Shri Kumar brings extensive technical expertise, strategic leadership, and a proven track record of delivering operational excellence across Coal India Limited’s subsidiaries.
An alumnus of BIT Sindri, Shri Kumar holds a B.Tech in Mining Engineering, a First Class Manager’s Competency Certificate, and an MBA. Throughout his career, he has successfully led several large-scale mining projects, secured key statutory and environmental clearances, resolved complex land acquisition and rehabilitation & resettlement (R&R) issues, and championed sustainable mining practices.
Before assuming his new role at ECL, Shri Kumar served as Area General Manager of Magadh-Sanghamitra Area, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing major mining projects and expanding production capacity.
Over the years, he has held key positions across ECL, CCL, and BCCL, contributing significantly to improvements in coal production, productivity, mine development, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
His outstanding contributions to the mining industry have been recognised with several prestigious honours, including the Coal Minister’s Award, Best General Manager Award, and the National Safety Award.
