New Delhi. IndustrialPunch : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, reviewing the full range of India-China relations.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes to Xi Jinping for China’s BRICS Presidency, which will begin next year. The two leaders welcomed the steady progress in bilateral relations since their last meeting in Tianjin in August 2025.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi and Xi agreed that India-China ties should be guided by a strategic and long-term perspective. They also stressed that differences should not turn into disputes. Modi underlined the importance of mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.
Border Peace and Boundary Resolution
The two leaders emphasised that peace and tranquillity along the border remain essential for the continued development of bilateral relations. They called for adherence to existing agreements and understandings and reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question.
Focus on Trade, Mobility and Cooperation
Modi and Xi also discussed strengthening people-to-people ties, cultural exchanges, business relations and mobility between the two countries. On economic issues, they underlined the need to address trade imbalance, supply-chain concerns and market-access challenges.

Prime Minister Modi appreciated China’s support for India’s BRICS Chairship and its contribution to the success of the New Delhi Summit. The meeting signals cautious efforts by both sides to stabilise and strengthen India-China relations after years of border tensions.
