Korba, 07 August (Industrial Punch Desk) : Departmental hospital of National Thermal Power Corporation, Korba continued to run without license for four and a half years. When the license was issued, the rules were also grossly violated in issuing it.
NTPC, Korba Jamnipali has a 70- bed hospital operating in its residential complex. Recently, it has been renamed as “NTPC Korba Hospital- Navjeevan”. Chhattisgarh state upcharyagriha tatha rogopchar sambandhi sthapnaye Anugyapan adhiniyam, 2010 (CG Nursing Home Act) is applicable in Chhattisgarh. Under this, all private, public sectors have to obtain license to operate hospitals.

NTPC Korba Hospital has been issued license (No. KORB0181/HOS) under CG Nursing Home Act on March 17, 2025, the duration of which is till March 16, 2030. Prior to this, NTPC Korba Hospital was issued a license (No. KORB0076/HOS) for the period from 27 September 2015 to 26 September 2020. The license issued under the CG Nursing Home Act is valid for five years.
According to the documents provided by the Chief Medical and Health Officer, Korba Office, NTPC Korba Hospital operated without a license from 27 September 2020 to 16 March 2025 i.e. four years, five months and 16 days.
In simple words, the hospital of a large industrial establishment of the public sector operated illegally for about four and a half years and the concerned departments did not take cognizance of it.
In this case, the role of NTPC Korba Hospital, NTPC Korba Management and Chief Medical and Health Officer, Korba Office is under suspicion. Gross violation of rules in issuing new license
There has been gross violation of rules in issuing the license
Issued to NTPC Korba Hospital on March 17, 2025. The Chief Medical and Health Officer, Korba office has ignored the rules in issuing the license to NTPC after a big gap of four years, five months and 16 days. The license issued on March 17, 2025 has the signature of Chief Medical and Health Officer, Korba Dr. SN Keshari.
The procedure for issuing license is prescribed under CG Nursing Home Act. After inspection etc. proceedings by the District Committee constituted under CG Nursing Home Act, the recommendation to issue the license is made to the supervisory authority. This is a mandatory process. In the case of issuing license to NTPC Korba Hospital, the entire process was set aside.

NTPC Management’s Vague Reply
Before the publication of the news, industrialpunch.com had emailed CMO NTPC Korba Hospital and Project Head, NTPC Korba on 4th August, 2025 to clarify the above matter and to obtain an authorized statement.
On the night of 4th August, a one-line reply was received from CMO NTPC, Korba Hospital Dr. Vinod Kolhatkar via email that “NTPC Korba Hospital is being run with all requisite licences required to run a Hospital.” On contacting on mobile the next day, CMO Dr. Vinod Kolhatkar could not give any clear information about running the hospital without license for about four and a half years and he talked about the implementation of the license related process by the HR Head of NTPC, Korba.
When NTPC, Korba’s HR Head Shashi Shekhar was talked to on (Mobile No. 9523631930), he said that he is currently in a meeting and will call after the meeting is over, but he did not call.
Chief Medical and Health Officer, Korba Dr. SN Keshari also could not give any clear answer regarding the operation of NTPC, Korba Hospital without license for about four and a half years.
